I am a Storyteller
What is the best way to tell a story?
This is a question I ask myself, always.
My storytelling mediums include print reporting, photography and data.
Sometimes, it involves performing live in front of an audience, or even community mentorship.
I am a driven storyteller. The action gives me a chance to connect with people, whom I am privileged to come across various communities. There is no storyteller sans the human connection.
Currently, I work as a freelance enterprising and investigative journalist for various Canadian publications. Previously, I worked as a staff reporter at the Toronto Star reporting on health, education and breaking news.
I proudly started as a student journalist with editor positions at Ryerson Review of Journalism
(now The Review of Journalism), GROK Magazine, and The Eyeopener.
I studied journalism at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), with a minor in philosophy. I also studied communications and media, with a focus on Indigenous Australian communities at Curtin University.
Beyond my work as a journalist, I have also worked for Toronto-based non-profits such as the Toronto Council on Aging, Urban Alliance on Race Relations, South Asian Health Alliance and Bangladeshi-Canadian Community Services.
My work focuses on health, community and the natural world. When reporting, I want to focus on the relationships between settler and Indigenous ideologies: how they converge and diverge.
When not working, I take a break to worship Dolly Parton. You can also find me dreaming in movie theatres or hiking through wilderness.
In all honesty, all my life is a ploy to plan my next creative endeavour.
